Car lights left on? How to alert the owner without a number

You're walking past a parked car and the headlights — or the interior light — are still on. The battery will be flat by morning and the owner has no idea. You'd like to help, but there's no phone number on the dash. Here's how to pass the message on, safely.

The short answer

  • QR sticker on the car? Scan it and send a quick message like "your headlights are on."
  • No sticker? Search the plate at app.contaq.live.
  • Nobody reachable? Leave a short note under the wiper — and never touch the car.

1. Scan the QR sticker if there is one

ContaQ Live stickers live on the window or windscreen. Point your phone camera at the code and you'll get a simple page to call or message the owner. A one-line message — "headlights are on" — is usually all it takes. No app is needed on your side, and your number stays hidden.

2. No sticker? Search the vehicle

Open app.contaq.live and enter the number plate. If the owner has registered the car, you can send them a message right away. If it says the vehicle isn't reachable, the owner hasn't joined yet.

3. If nobody is reachable

  • Leave a short, friendly note under the wiper: "Lights are on."
  • Don't leave your own phone number — you don't need the risk.
  • If it's in a building's parking, tell the security or reception desk.

What not to do

  • Don't open the door or touch the controls. Even with good intentions, you could be blamed for damage — or set off an alarm.
  • Don't try to disconnect the battery or open the bonnet.
  • Don't post the plate publicly to warn the owner.

Why this matters for the owner

A flat battery is a small thing that ruins a morning — jump-starts, missed meetings, a tow. One anonymous message prevents it. That's the whole point of making a car reachable without putting a phone number on the windscreen.

Frequently asked questions

How do I tell someone their car lights are on?

Scan the QR sticker and message the owner, or search the plate on ContaQ Live. If that's not possible, leave a note under the wiper.

Should I open the car or turn the lights off myself?

No. Never open, touch, or operate someone else's vehicle. A message is always the safer form of help.

Will the owner know it was me?

They'll see the message, but not your real number. ContaQ Live relays the contact so both sides stay private.
